Emmetsburg Coach Ted Riley's words were right on the mark Monday afternoon as the Lady E-Hawk golfers of Emmetsburg came up with consistent rounds of golf to finish second in the Class 2A Regional golf meet at Woodlyn Hills golf course at Milford.
Emmetsburg would finish behind Alta-Aurelia, who shot a team total 384, while the Lady E-Hawks shot a 416 to beat out the host Okoboji Pioneers, who shot a 424. Fourth place when to Garner-Hayfield with a 440, while Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer was fifth with a 448 score.
North Union would finish sixth with a 466, while Sioux Central was seventh with a 511 and Manson Northwest Webster placed eighth with a 526 stroke total.
Alta-Aurelia took the first round lead with a 190, while Okoboji had a 192 and Emmetsburg posted a 205. But in the second round, Emmetsburg kept its scores consistent, carding a 206 while Okoboji shot a 232 to allow Emmetsburg to overtake the hosts and earn the final advancement finish.
For the Lady E-Hawks, Ashley Pelzer shot rounds of 47 and 50 for 97, while Taylor Knight shot a 49 and 51 for a 100. Aleysha Schutz carded rounds of 56 and 53 for a 109, while Paige Naig added a 58 and 52 for a 110 stroke total. Katie Kassel would add rounds of 54 and 58 for a 112 total and Katie Ruiz shots a 55 and 59 for a 114.
Medalist honors went to Okoboji's Kiley Wermersen, with teammate Alex Mankle finishing as runner-up. Also qualifying for Individual medalist play on May 21 were Kelsi Snyder of Alta-Aurelia, Erica Lockin of Alta-Aurelia and Karah Huniker of Garner-Hayfield.
Emmetsburg will host the 2A Regional at Five Island Golf Course Monday, May 21, at 10 a.m. for the right to advance to state.
