Kids taking part in the Wings & Wetlands event had the opportunity to get close to several animals like the American alligator pictured above. The animals—including a screech owl, duck, armadillo, and hedgehog--were part of a traveling exhibit from the Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines. Wings & Wetlands was held Saturday at the Lost Island Prairie Wetlands Nature Center north of Ruthven. –Lori Hall photo
