Funeral service for Rachel I. Randa of Cylinder is Friday, May 4, at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg.
Burial is in Evergreen Cemetery in Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is today, Thursday, May 3, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home.
Rachel Iva (Atkinson) Randa went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, April 30, 2012.
She was born in Emmetsburg on Sept. 2, 1920, to Roy and Delphine (Schmidt) Atkinson. She attended schools in Emmetsburg, graduating in 1938. When she was a Sophomore in high school, until the time of her marriage, she worked at Dr. Hobson's optometry office and Bratland Jewelry Store.
On Jan. 12, 1941, Rachel married Percy Randa of Cylinder. They made their home on their farm on Highway 18, east of Emmetsburg, where she lived for 64 years.
Rachel participated in many activities at the United Methodist Church; circle, working in the baby nursery, attending and teaching Sunday School and raising her daughters in the faith.
Rachel was also a member of Cylinder Women's Club, Freedom Township Club, and the Emmetsburg Historical Society. She was a loyal band booster when her girls were in school and had been a part of the BABES program at the Emmetsburg Elementary School for several years.
After Rachel's children left home, she worked for Potter's Jewelry and at Steven's Jewelry for many years.
Rachel was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Percy; her brother, Raymond Atkinson; two sons-in-law, Bob Devine and Joe Schmid; and a nephew, Johnny Atkinson.
She is survived by her daughters, Marcia Dell Schmid of Lancaster, CA, Pamela Kay and Jim Wesch of McCook, NE, and Julie Ann Devine of Algona; grandchildren, Deborah Rachelle Cohen and her family of Lancaster, CA, Scott Andre Luiken and his family of Cylinder, Susan Elizabeth Segura of Lancaster, CA, and Chad R. Devine and his family of Algona. She is also survived by her nephew and nieces, Raymond (Bruce) Atkinson and his family of Lakewood, CO, Carol Flack and her family of Cedar Falls, and Sheila Rae Bentley and her family of Maquoketa; and a sister-in-law, Nina Randa of Fenton.
