Emmetsburg News

Funeral service for John W. Wright of Emmetsburg was held Monday, March 19, at the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Louie Gallo, the Rev. Clem Currans and the Rev. Jared Rakness officiated.

Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.

John Wayne Wright was born to Bob and Phyllis (Henningsen) Wright in Emmetsburg on Oct.11, 1957. John grew up in Emmetsburg, graduating from high school in 1976. He then entered Iowa State University to study Mechanical Engineering.

On July 19, 1980, John married the love of his life, Maureen McCain. From this union, two children were born. Joe was born in 1982 and developed John's passion for motorcycles and muscle cars. Megan was born in 1985 and soon became the apple of her adoring father's eye.

John was a man dedicated first and foremost to his family, as well as his work and his hobbies. He was a loving husband and a thoughtful father. He was an incredible provider and protector of the people he loved. John was blessed with an intelligent mind and quiet strength; these two qualities he shared and gave freely. There is nothing he wouldn't do for his family.

His hobbies were a very integral part of his life, and may be one of the easiest things for his friends and family to associate with him. From cars to motorcycles and even vintage racing snowmobiles, John was always busy riding, restoring, polishing, and trading.

John worked for the Palo Alto County Engineer's office for 22 years. If you've ever driven across any of the smooth county roads, you have witnessed John's skill and impact on the design. John's legacy will continue to thrive through his family and in the projects he contributed to during his career.

John is preceded in death by his daughter, Megan in March of 1998.

He is survived by his wife, Maureen of Emmetsburg; son, Joe and daughter-in-law, Denise of Ames; sister, Debra Buse and brother-in-law, Barry of Webster City; brother, Jim and sister-in-law, Jean of Sioux Falls, SD; his parents, Bob and Phyllis Wright of Emmetsburg; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A memorial fund has been established for "The John Wright Annual Motorcycle Safety Ride" at Iowa Trust & Savings Bank in Emmetsburg.
