WEST?BEND - The fans got their money's worth in a meeting of the Emmetsburg E-Hawks and the Wolverines of West Bend-Mallard Monday night. When the final horn sounded, Emmetsburg had earned a 54-51 win to improve to 11-8 on the season.
The Wolverines would take an early lead over the E-Hawks, with an 18-16 margin after the first frame, and extended their lead to 32-24 at the intermission as the E-Hawks struggled with their shooting. All that would change in the second half, as Emmetsburg came out and quickly caught the Wolverines before taking a 42-41 lead at the end of the third stanza.
It was back and forth in the final quarter but a layup by Zach Overberg with :06 to go gave the E-Hawks the win.
Ryan Kliegl had 14 points for the E-Hawks, while Marcus Akridge added 12 and Jake Carlson scored 11. Zach Overberg added seven points, with Michael Wolff adding six and Jake Jackson scored for points.
For the Wolverines, Chris Schmidt led the offense with 17 points while Jordan Buhs added 14 makers. Jason Zinnel and Jesse Zinnel both scored nine points each and Mitch Bonnstetter added two points.
