BURNSIDE - For the Knights of Graettinger/Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire, Saturday's Northwest Conference Tournament ended up with an individual championships. Tyler Dalen, wrestling at 113 pounds, would claim the title to lead the Knights' fourth-place effort on the day at Southeast Webster.
Dalen would win his title with pins over Colin Cory of South Central Calhoun in 1:07 and Spencer Johnson of Prairie Valley in 1:43.
A runner-up finish was claimed by Cody Thompson at 220 pounds. Thomson pinned Joe Rodrigues of Alta-Aurelia in :37 and then pinned Kaden Anderson of South Central Calhoun in 3:59 before he was pinned by Daniel Goowin of Manson Northwest Webster in the finals in 2:20 to settle for second place.
"I was proud of Cody Thompson in making his first finals, especially only being a freshman," said Alesch.
A pair of Knights earned third place finishes in the conference, Austin Thompson at 120 pounds and Trent Lundgren, who wrestled at 145 pounds.
Connor Tonderum would finish fourth at 126 pounds, along with 160 pounder Matt McGrauth and 170 pounder Quinn Parker.
Rounding out the finishes for GT/RA was Kyle Long, who finished fifth at 182 pounds.
"We probably wrestled the best as a team as we have on any previous Saturday," said GT/Ra coach Cody Alesch. "We only lost a few matches we thought we should have won. It was good to have nine guys wrestling as it shows we are getting more guys back in our lineup."
