Christopher Gehrig has been hired as an AmeriCorps Wildlife Habitat Specialist to work with Palo Alto Soil &?Water Conservation District, the Clay Soil &?Water Conservation District and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. His duties include promoting and creating wildlife habitat on private land, using federal and state conservation programs.
"I have been quite fortunate to have been selected by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Private Lands division to fulfill the position of Wildlife Habitat Specialist in the NRCS?Field Offices of Clay and Palo Alto County," said Gehrig. "I look forward to working with the NRCS and the community."
In his new position, Gehrig will promote the creation of quality wildlife habitat on private lands, often times using federal and state government programs to do so. This will include landowner mailings, door to door program delivery, information collection and assisting in the targeting of potential customer groups. He will also provide technical advice to land owners on such topics as wildlife habitat management, federal and state government program specifica-
tions, and specific wildlife species habitat needs; and assist the DNR staff with wildlife related surveys and monitoring, and assist with public lands wildlife management.
