WEST BEND The Grotto of the Redemption will sponsor its first "Builders' Banquet" on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at the Park View Inn & Suites and Convention Center in West Bend. The evening's festivities will feature a dinner theater production by "Entertainment 2 Go" as well as silent and live auctions throughout the evening.
"The purpose of this banquet is to raise funds to be used towards many projects," noted Darcie Kramer, Executive Director at the Grotto. "We are anticipating many more visitors next year because of our 100 year anniversary and we want to make sure the grounds look better than ever when those tourists arrive."
The Grotto has applied for various local and regional grant funds to help with a variety of projects, but Kramer says there is nothing like the support of the local community.
"The people of West Bend and surrounding communities have been exceptional in the pats with their support of the Grotto," Kramer said. "We're aiming to provide a bit of fun on a Saturday night and raise money for our cause at the same time."
Tickets for the dinner theater event are now available and may be purchased at the Grotto office by calling (515) 887-2371 or in person during business hours. Organizers of the dinner theater are also asking for donated items to be auctioned off for the event. Anyone with items to donate may contact Kramer at the Grotto office for more information.
Dubbed "a miracle in stone," the Grotto of the Redemption is located in West Bend. The Grotto is a composite of nine separate grottos built out of one of the largest collections of semi-precious stones and gems found in one location. Constructed by Father Paul Dobberstein beginning in 1912, the Grotto hosts thousands of visitors each year and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.
