MILFORD - The Emmetsburg Lady E-Hawks claimed a 46-33 win over Okoboji to close out the first half of the basketball season Thursday night. The win improves Emmetsburg to 6-2 on the season.
The first quarter was tight, with both teams struggling to get an offensive flow going, but Emmetsburg would end up with a two-point, 8-6 lead at the end of the first period of play.
In the second quarter, Emmetsburg would begin to distance themselves from the Pioneers, keyed by some timely three-point buckets from Kaity Degen, Alexa Naig and Ashton Connelly. The long ball, along with some good defensive work, would help the Lady E-Hawks work their way out to a 15-point, 29-14 advantage at the intermission.

Play in the third quarter was even for both teams, as the both scored just nine points each during the eight minutes of play, but the two defenses were working doubly hard to accomplish the feat. At the end of the third, Emmetsburg continued to hold the 15 point advantage at 18-23.
In the final quarter of play, Emmetsburg would actually be outscored by the Pioneers down the stretch, 10-8, but the 15 point advantage was too much for Okoboji to make up as Emmetsburg was able to play out for the 46-33 victory to start the holiday break.
For Emmetsburg, freshman Ashton Connelly led the offense with 13 points, and was followed by senior Paige Naig's 11 point effort. Kaity Degen would tally seven points, with Hadley Egland adding six points to the coffers.
Faith Schmidt scored four points, while Alexa Naig added three points and Jacque Carlson came off the bench to chip in two points to the winning effort.
