WEST?BEND - With just two weeks remaining in the season, the fourth-ranked Wolverines of West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate are rolling along nicely after a 78-12 win over Corwith-Wesley-LuVerne on Friday night.
However, the next two games will tell the tale of the season as the Wolverines take on North Sentral Kossuth this Friday before meeting up with the district-leading Armstrong-Ringsted Mustangs on the road.
But for their final home stand, the Wolverines scored early and often on Friday, jumping out to a 34-0 lead over the Panthers at the end of the first quarter. The first score came from Mitch Bonnstetter's 13 yard run and a conversion run by Logan Streit. A safety was also recorded in the first quarter by the Wolverines after CWL fell on the ball in their own end zone to give WBM/GCB a 10-0 lead with 8:24 to go in the quarter.

Logan Streit would tally a two-yard score with 7:05 to go and Nathan Grimm added the conversion for an 18-0 lead before Bonnstetter would strike again with a 68-yard punt return for a touchdown. Streit added the conversion run for a 26-0 lead with 4:39 remaining in the quarter.
With 1:14, Streit would run in from five yards out for a score and Bonnstetter added the conversion run for a 34-0 tally to close out the first stanza.
It didn't take long in the second quarter for the Wolverines to strike again, as Bonnstetter found Jason Zinnel with a 26 yard pass for a score with 11:40 on the clock. Logan Streit added the conversion run for a 42-0 lead.
After a quick turnover by the Panthers, the Wolverines struck again with a 13 yard run from Streit, with Bonnstetter adding the deuce for a 50-0 lead with 10:02 to play in the half.
The Wolverines would score with 6:30 to go in the half when Jordon Buhs ripped off a 60 yard run for a touchdown. The conversion failed, making the score 56-0, but the Wolverines weren't through just yet.
With 4:24 to go in the half, Jesse Zinnel kept the ball on a quarterback keeper and scored from six yards away, but again the conversion failed, giving WBM/GCB a 62-0 lead.
The half would end with the Wolverines getting a 75-yard run from Buhs for a score with 2:41 to go in the half. The conversion run from Kurt Banwart made the score 70-0, but with 2:25 to go, Corwith-Wesley-LuVerne came up with a 55 yard scoring run to erase their goose egg on the scoreboard to trail 70-6 at the intermission.
The clock would run continuously in the second half, with the Wolverine reserves taking over immediately.
Neither team would score in the third quarter, but in the final abbreviated frame, West Bend-Mallard/Gil-more City-Bradgate would get a two yard run from Ashton Fehr for a score with 9:09 on the clock, and Davey Jergens added the two-point conversion run for a 78-6 tally.
Corwith-Wesley-LuVerne would score one final time with 3:52 to go in the game off a four yard run for the 78-12 final score.
The Wolverines steam rolled their way to 503 yards on the ground off 57 rushing attempts, while Corwith-Wesley-LuVerne gained 33 yards off 33 attempts.
WBM/GCB's Mitch Bonnstetter attempted four passes and completed one for 26 yards, while the Panthers threw 10 passes and completed two for 36 yards.
Overall, the Wolverines ended up with 529 total offensive yards, while the Panthers had 69 total offensive yards in the loss.
The Wolverines never punted in the game, while CWL punted nine times for an average of 28 yards, for a total of 259 yards punting.
The Wolverines were led by Logan Streit with 120 yards of 13 carries with four scores, while Jordan Buhs rushed the ball three times, but racked up 183 yards and scored two touchdowns.
Mitch Bonnstetter added 90 yards off eight carries for a touchdown, completed a 26 yard pass out of four attempts for a touchdown and also returned a punt 65 yards for a score. Ashton Fehr gained 72 yards off 11 rushes with a touchdown, while Jesse Zinnel gained 43 yards off 11 carries with a touchdown.
Davey Jergens had 15 yards off five carries, while Kurt Banwart added three carries for 10 yards. Nate Grimm had nine yards on two carries and Dan Eubank had a six yard carry.
Defensively, Nate Grimm had five tackles and a quarterback sack, while Dylan Zaugg had four tackles. Sean Riesenberg and Jesse Zinnel both made three tackles, while Aaron Montag had two stops and a sack and Kolten Goodchild also had two stops.
Tony Bruellman and Matt Goeders both recorded quarterback sacks as well for the Wolverines and Jason Zinnel recovered a fumble in the victory.
WBM/GCB improves to a mark of 4-0 in Eight-Man District two and a 7-0 overall mark on the season with the victory on Friday night.
