GRAETTINGER -- A memorial service for Verna Starkey of Graettinger will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 12 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger.
Inurnment is in St. Paul's Cemetery of South Walnut Township.
The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m, today, Tuesday, at the Joyce-Alesch Funeral Home in Graettinger.
Verna Pauline Starkey was born Oct. 13, 1925, in Graettinger, the daughter of Edward and Christine (Petersen) Duhn. She attended school in Graettinger, and she was a 1943 graduate of Graettinger High School.
On Feb. 4, 1946, Verna was united in marriage to Dale Starkey at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Graettinger.
Verna was a life-long member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger, and she was a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. Verna always enjoyed a good card game with family and friends. She liked bowling, bingo and traveling south in the winter. More than anything, Verna loved the time she spent with her family.
On Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011, Verna passed way at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville. She was 85.
Left to cherish her memory are four daugh-ters: Gale Nelson (Doug), and Becky Murray (Terry) all of Graettinger, and Linda Walrath and Kay Starkey both of Tucson, AZ; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandsons; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale; son, Gregory Starkey; grandson, Timothy Westfall; two sisters: Gloria McKenna and Deloris Duhn; and two brothers: Lloyd and Clayton Duhn.
