Wolverines Win Homecoming Matchup

WEST?BEND - The Wolverines of West Bend-Mallard picked up a 44-14 Homecoming win over Harris-Lake Park Friday night in Eight Man District Two play. The win keeps the Wolverines perfect on the season with a 4-0 mark and 1-0 district record.

West Bend-Mallard would take an 8-0 lead in the first quarter off a 15 yard run by Collin Thatcher, who would also run in the conversion to start the scoring.

In the second quarter, the Wolverines would scored off a 47 yard keeper by Mitch Bonnstetter, but the conversion run failed for a 14-0 lead.

Harris-Lake Park answered with a 17 yard touchdown pass, but the kick failed for a 14-6 score. West Bend-Mallard answered with a six yard run by Thatcher and a conversion run from Logan Streit to give the Wolverines a 22-6 lead at the halftime break.

The Wolverines picked up right where they left off in the second half, as the scored off an eight-yard run by Mitch Bonnstetter and added a conversion run from Collin Thatcher for a 30-6 lead, but Harris-Lake Park would score off a 47-yard pass play and then added a two-point conversion to make the score 30-14 to start the final quarter.

West Bend-Mallard would score first in the last frame, as Bonnstetter would keep the ball and run in from three yards out, but the conversion would fail for a 36-14 lead.

After kicking off to the Wolves, the Wolvering defense came up with a big play as with 10:26 to go in the game, A group sack of the Wolves' quarterback in the end zone gave West Bend-Mallard a safety and 38-14 score.

After the resulting kick, West Bend-Mallard took over once again and engineered a final drive that would be capped off by a 23 yard run by Bonnstetter for the score. The conversion failed, but West Bend-Mallard was ready to celebrate with the 44-14 win for the Homecoming week finale`.

West Bend-Mallard was led by Mitch Bonnstetter with 23 carries for 191 yards and four touchdowns. Collin Thatcher had 17 carries for 78 yards and three scores, while Logan Streit added eight rushes for 50 yards. Ashton Fehr had three rushes for 15 yards and Jesse Zinnel had a carry for six yards.

Bonnstetter completed nine of 12 passes for 158 yards, with Matt Goeders making five catches for 91 yards. Sean Riesenberg had two catches for 46 yards and Collin Thatcher added two receptions for 21 yards.

Defensively, Matt Goeders had 12 tackles and two sacks, while Dylan Zaugg added seven tackles and two sacks. Tony Bruellman had three tackles and a sack.

Nate Grimm made 10 tackles, with Dustin Johnson and Collin Thatcher both adding six stops and Logan Streit had five with Aaron Montag adding two tackles to the effort.
