Emmetsburg's Sophomore E-Hawks earned wins over Spencer and Algona to start their football season out with a 2-0 mark.

The E-Hawks opened with a 43-14 win over Spencer on Aug. 29.

The E-Hawks led 8-0 in the first off a one-yard run by Allen Jenson and a conversion run by quarterback Brandon Elbert. A second score would come from Aaron Bird off a 25 yard run for a 14-0 lead to end the quarter.

Spencer would answer to erase their goose egg, but the E-Hawks got a three yard pass from Elbert to Brady Christensen and the conversion run from Jensen for a 22 6 lead before Spencer added another score for a 22-14 tally at the break.

The E-Hawks would hold Spencer scoreless from there on, and added a 33 yard run from Jensen in the third and a 33 yard run from Bird in the fourth to take the 43-14 win.

Aaron Bird would rush for 217 yards, with Allen Jensen adding 144 yards, Defensively, Brady Christensen had two picks and Shay Mortenson added one.

Emmetsburg would then defeat Algona Sept. 6 by a 28-20 tally.

In the first quarter, Emmetsburg scored off a five-yard run from Brady Christensen, who then ran in his own conversion for an 8-0 lead.

The E-Hawks added to their tally in the second frame when Christensen ran in from three yards out to score. Aaron Bird would carry the conversion for a 16-0 E-Hawk lead, but Algona would come back to answer for a 16-6 tally.

But just before the half, Christensen would strike a third time, again from three yards out, only to see the conversion failed for a 22-6 halftime lead.

Algona would score on their first drive of the third quarter to cut the deficit to 22-14, and then added another score at the end of the quarter to cut the gap to 22-20 as the final quarter began.

Emmetsburg would come away with one more score in the final quarter, getting a two yard run from Brady Christensen to make the score 28-20 after the conversion run failed. Emmetsburg would play some heads-up defense to close out the game and preserve the victory.

Brady Christensen was the workhorse for the E-Hawks, carrying the ball for 238 yards and scoring all of the Emmetsburg touchdowns in the win. Aaron Bird added 77 yards and Tyler Henson came away with 20 yards, while Brandon Elbert carried for 21 yards.

Defensively, Brady Christensen, along with Shay Mortenson, Eric Drost and Joel Hoyman all intercepted passes and Tanner Dahm recovered a fumble for the E-Hawks.
