With the non-district football schedule in the books for the season, the real season is at hand for Emmetsburg's E-Hawks. The start of district play for Emmetsburg comes this Friday night on the road against the Rebels of Sioux Central. The game will be played at the field located in Albert City on Friday night.
For the E-Hawks, last Friday's game with Spencer was a battle that was not decided until the final :34 seconds when an interception stopped a potential scoring drive for the Tigers.
But, what's past is past, and the only way to look is forward to Friday night. The Rebels will be a team to be dealt with.
"Sioux Central is a quick huddle team," noted Emmetsburg Head Coach Mike Dunlap. "They run A-Belly, the dive, the belly keep, quick-side sweep, the bootleg and the fade on the offense."
But when you add in the fact that Sioux Central has one of the leading rushers in the district in Collin Swanson, and is also 2-0 on the season like the E-Hawks, the two teams match up awfully close on paper.
But on the gridiron, anything can happen.
"Defensively, the operate out of the 5-2 defense," Dunlap added. "As a team, they lead the district in almost every offensive category."
For the E-Hawks, the goal remains to approach each game as if it were the most important game of every season.
"We must continue to become a disciplined and focused football team in all phases of the football game," Coach Dunlap said. "We need to continue to improve on our offensive and defensive lines."
