The opening game jitters are out of the way. Lessons were learned and things have been clarified and worked on in the week since Emmetsburg defeated Estherville Lincoln Central by a 41-15 score last Friday.
The continued hard work is necessary as the E-Hawks prepare for the game they anticipate year-to-year - Spencer.
"We had a great team effort last Friday,"?Emmetsburg Head Coach Mike Dunlap said. "I was very happy with the way the defense played. Our offense does need to continue t o improve with their assignments and execution, however."
Through this week of practice, its the execution and assignments that have been the emphasis of the E-Hawks' efforts to prepare for the Tigers come Friday night.
"Spencer is a mid-line veer offense and a very disciplined football team on defense,"?Dunlap noted. "We are really emphasizing the need for our players to play assignment football, to be physical on every play and always run to the ball."
The Tigers also present a bit of a different challenge for the E-Hawks as they prepare for Friday night's battle at Dale Norton Field.
"Spencer is using a defense with a 40 front,"?Dunlap explained. "It's a little different than a four-four defense. Also, they have great team speed as well on defense."
While the E-Hawks rolled up over 300 yards on the ground against Estherville Lincoln Central on Friday night, the odds are the yardage will be a little more difficult to earn this Friday.
"We need to continue to improve on assignments on the offensive line,"?Dunlap said, "And overall, we need to continue to grow and become an even more disciplined football team."
Friday's renewal of the E-Hawk-Tiger series will kickoff at 7 p.m. at Spencer's Dale Norton Field.
