Philip and Oma Montag of Faribault, MN, formerly of Curlew, Dows, and Hampton, will celebrate 65 years of marriage on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011.
The couple was married in West Bend in 1946. They are parents of four sons and five daughters, all living except for the youngest son who died in 1978.
Philip and Oma farmed at Curlew until they bought their farm in the Dows area. After retiring from farming, they both worked as federal meat inspectors, living in Indianola, then Hampton.
They moved to Faribault, MN, after Oma suffered a stroke in 2004, to be closer to their daughters who could help care for them. In June, Philip had surgery and suffered a stroke, and after seven weeks at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and the Mayo facility in Cannon Falls, he returned home, where his family is caring for him.
Oma says, "After 65 years, we really realize what our wedding vows meant." She is especially grateful for the excellent care Phil received from the Mayo nurses and for the help of his family.
The family would like to honor Philip and Oma with a card shower on Aug. 27. Their address is:?2306 Kennedy Drive, Faribault, MN 55021.
