SONORA, CA -- Richard Duane Donovan of Sonora, CA, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2011.
Dick Donovan was born April 16, 1931, in Emmetsburg. He was a great athlete, playing football, basketball and baseball throughout high school and college.
A Korean War veteran, he was stationed on the USS?Oriskany aircraft carrier. He was awarded a Bronze Star for pulling the pilot out of a burning plane that exploded when a hung bomb dropped and blew on landing.
Dick married Mary Louise Hernandez of Sunnyvale, CA. They were married for 42 years until Mary's passing. Dick and Mary had five boys. He became a Hayward Firefighter and retired after 30 years. "Once a Hero, Always a Hero."?He then started selling real estate and moved to Sonora in 1984 until passing.
Dick enjoyed fishing, golf, bowling and anything that involved fun with family, friends and a cold beverage. Dick has nine grandchildren, most of them living in Sonora, CA.
He is survived by his sons:?Ric, Dan, Larry, Scott and David; and grandkids:?JoJo, Matt, Kelley, Maeve, Logan, Caitlin, Emily, Devin and Molly.
