Funeral service for Shirley A. Johnson of Ayrshire was Sunday, July 3, at the First United Methodist Church in Ayrshire. The Rev. Roger Maize officiated.
Burial was in Silver Lake Cemetery, Ayrshire. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.
Shirley Ann Gravlund Johnson, daughter of Cecil and Frances (Smith) Bowman, was born June 30, 1930, near Curlew. Shirley attended country school near Ayrshire and then continued her education at Catholic School through 8th grade. She graduated from Ayrshire High School in 1949.
Shirley was united in marriage to Cleo Gravlund on July 31, 1949, in Jackson, MN. To this union two children were born. Shirley was employed at Lehman's Dairy in Emmetsburg, The Family Shoe Store in Laurens and the Emmetsburg Care Center.
Cleo passed away in 1980. In June 1983, Shirley was married to Lawrence Johnson, at the United Methodist Church in Ayrshire. Shirley and Lawrence made their home in Ayrshire where they were the custodians for the Methodist Church.
Shirley was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ayrshire, where she was active in church circle. She was also a former member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary in Emmetsburg.
Shirley passed away Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, at the age of 80.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; and an infant sister.
She is survived by her children, Gary Gravlund of Ayrshire and friend, Angel Phares, Anesa Bailey of Ayrshire and her fianc, Bob McGregor; a grandson, Laine Bailey of Ayrshire; a brother, Conway Bowman of Sioux Falls, SD (Betty Jo); two sisters, Juanita Bowman of Medford, OR and Patricia Clifford of Mountain View, MO.
