RUTHVEN -- Funeral service for Lena M. Rosewall of Ruthven was Monday, June 27, at the ?United Methodist Church in Ruthven. The Rev. Roger Maize officiated.
Lena Mildred Whitford was born Sept. 22, 1905 near Collins, to Grace (Brown) and Charles Whitford. When she was a year old they moved to Ruthven, and later to a farm near Graettinger. Lena graduated from the first class at Lake Center High School.
She took Normal Training at Estherville to become a teacher, teaching for two years near Ruthven and Langdon.
Lena married George Rosewall on June 12, 1928 in Peterson. They farmed for many years near Ruthven. After her children were raised Lena returned to teaching at Lake Center and Terrill where she taught another 19 years.
Lena was active in many organizations and loved traveling.
Lena passed away Thursday, June 23, 2011, at the Ruthven Community Care Center at the age of 105.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George in 1984; a sister, Edith Eggleston; two brothers, Eugene and Raymond; and a great grandson, Travis Matters.
She is survived by her children, Lorine (Mrs. Fred) Matters, Vergene Rosewall, Evon (Mrs. Ron) Struthers and Karrol (Mrs. Ron) Subbert; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren; and three sisters, Rena Hanson, Mabel Smith and Faye Beck.
