A memorial service for Silas Naig will be held Saturday, June 25, 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran South Cemetery near Depew. Pastor Judy Depue will officiate.
Silas passed away Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011 in Evans, GA.
Silas Naig, son of Bertel and Josie (Handeland) Naig was born July 18, 1935 on a farm near Depew. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran in Depew and attended Vernon Township country school in Palo Alto County. He graduated from Emmetsburg High School and attended Emmetsburg Jr. College for one year.
Silas entered the United States Air Force and served for three years, stationed in England, North Africa and Germany. He worked with his brother, Berger, in Pennsylvania for a short time. Later, he joined his cousins in Seattle in commercial king crab and salmon fishing at Kodiak and Adak, AK in the Aleutian Islands.
He married Paula Mitchell in 1978. In more recent years, he lived in Honolulu and engaged in commercial tuna fishing.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Silas Monroe Naig of Las Vegas, NV, and daughter, Anna Naig, of Evans, GA; sister, Bertha (Sam) Johnson of Ringsted, brother Berger (Dorothy) Naig of Fairmont, MN, and sister-in-law, Darlene Naig, of Emmetsburg, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceeded in death by his parents; brother, Joe; half brothers, Pete and Marvin Peterson, Elmer, Ted, Tom, Berger, Carl, and Torger Naig; and half sisters, Esther Egland, Mattie Gjerde, Mabel Juhl, Emma Tow, Genevieve Christianson and Selma Egland.
