MALLARD - Richard "Dick" Johnson passed away May 27, 2011 in Mesa, AZ. He was 82.
Services will be held Saturday, June 11, 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Mallard. Inurnment will follow at Rush Lake Cemetery, Mallard. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Richard "Dick" Johnson, son of Emery and Doris Johnson, was born on a farm near Curlew on June 27, 1928. He was an only child for 13 years, until his brother Jerry came along. He spent his early childhood years in the Havelock, Laurens, Webb, and Curlew areas, graduating from Curlew High School in 1948.
On June 4, 1949, Richard married Ilah Brumm. They spent many years in and around the Curlew area where they raised sons Stephen and Alan and daughter LeAnna.
Richard loved to travel and after their children were raised he spent many happy years in Florida and Arizona. Richard loved people and would do anything for anyone. He was a good husband, father, and friend to all and will always be remembered for his antics and fun-loving personality.
In August of 2010 Richard met Shirley Leadley, a special friend, and they spent the last eight months enjoying time in Arizona together.
Survivors include his son, Stephen of Mesa, AZ; daughter, LeAnna Swalley of Sheldon; daughter-in-law, Maggie Johnson of Jordan, MN; grandchildren, Brad, Scott, Luke, and Lydia; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Sydney, Emily, and Aiden; brother, Jerry (Liz) Johnson of Curlew; special friend, Shirley Leadley of Humboldt; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ilah; son, Alan; and son-in-law, Mike Swalley.
