Hazel L. Thiel of Emmetsburg died Monday, June 6, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City. She was 71.
Visitation is Friday, June 10, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. Services will be held Saturday, June 11, 10:30 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Hazel Lynette Thiel, daughter of Clarence "Bud" and Hazel (Garland) Frisbie, was born February 4, 1940, in Peoria, IL. Her family moved to Emmetsburg where Hazel received her education.
Hazel drove school bus for the Spencer school district and then drove truck for Emmetsburg Ready Mix for over 20 years. She also drove a semi truck and helped build grain elevators. Hazel was a First Responder and very instrumental in the Iowa Share Program.
Hazel was a devoted member of Bethany Lutheran Church and was a member of church circle. She helped at BINGO at the V.F.W. for many years.
Survivors include her children, Gregory Fitzner of Graettinger, Terry and Linda Fitzner of Des Moines, and Charm Fitzner (Terry Wise) of Des Moines; eight grandchildren, Arthur, Howard, Allen, Cory, Brian, Toby, Kellie, and Mike; six great grandchildren; her father, Clarence "Bud" Frisbie of Emmetsburg; and two sisters, Ardyth Shuck of Hartley, and Mary Haffner of Clearfield.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Hazel; and husbands, August "Gus" Fitzner, Roger Thiel, and Lynn Moor.
