WAVERLY -- Ella Mae Lindner-Depenbusch, age 73, of Emmetsburg and formerly of Waverly, died Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at the Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg.
Ella was born on Feb. 7, 1938, in Bremer County, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer and Erna (Kleinschmidt) Lindner. She was raised in Bremer County and graduated from the Waverly High School in 1955.
Ella was united in marriage to Victor Matthias in 1955 and in 1979 they divorced. Ella spent her time as a homemaker, commercial cleaning, printing for the Black Hawk County Civil Defense, and for Powers Manufacturing in Waterloo.
In 1986 she graduated from Iowa Lakes Community College with a degree in Arts and Science. Later that year she married James Depenbusch in Emmetsburg and that's where the couple made their home. Ella enjoyed volunteering at Allen Hospital in Waterloo and at the Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg. Her other enjoyments included gardening, traveling, music, reading, writing, crocheting, crafts, knitting, fishing, camping, entertaining, socializing, and being around people. Ella was a member of the United Methodist Church in Waverly and the American Legion Women's Auxiliary in Emmetsburg.
Her memory is honored by her husband, James Depenbusch of Emmetsburg; four children, Sheila Matthias of Tampa, FL, Valerie (Randy) Hinkle of Iowa Falls, Jeff (Kathy) Matthias of Waterloo, and Kim (Randy) See of Rowley; two brothers, Merlwin (Violet) Lindner of Nashua and Duane (Jenanie) Lindner of California; three sisters, Bernice Hartzell of Waverly, LaVon (Harry) Brickman of Harpers Ferry, and Arlene (Gerald) Hoover of Scottsdale, AZ; five grandchildren, Nathan (Kristi) See, Chad (Michelle) Hinkle, Jason (Kim) Hinkle, Stacy (Steve) Schaefer, and Laura (Bryan) Coats, and nine great-grandchildren, Madalyn Knutson, Parker Hinkle, Ryder Hinkle, Chloe Bittner, Alexis See, Noah Gross, Jackson Gross, McKenzie See, and Kane Schaefer.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Amy Lancaster-Knutson.
Ella has been cremated and private family funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 28, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly with burial to follow at the Harlington Cemetery.
