On Dec. 21, 1929, Ruth married Mervin A. Hauenstein at Algona. The couple farmed in Kossuth County until 1938, when they went into a partnership in a machine shop with John Hanselman. She worked there until she was 87 years old. After retiring she went to work full time on her family genealogy records from home. Ruth was a member of the Community Church of Christ.
