To the Editor:
"Fair Street Assessments?"
Our city officials may be asked to determine if the established formula for assessing street repair costs to the property owners is unfairly expensive to the citizens involved. If the Council were to change the established rate at which property owners are assessed, it will only be fair to reduce the rate retroactively to include the citizens who were heavily assessed in the previous street assessment projects in 1997-1998. We should all be treated equally. If the rates of assessment are reduced, that change should be extended back to the earlier assessments with appropriate refunds!
