The E’Hawks and Rebels traded buckets through the first quarter, with Emmetsburg taking a 14-12 lead at the end of the opening stanza. But in the second quarter, Emmetsburg’s offense would open up and start hitting, while the defense put the stops on the Rebels. But late in the half, Sioux Central found a spark and made a run at the E’Hawks, cutting Emmetsburg’s lead to eight points, but the E’Hawks would persevere to take a 31-21 lead at the intermission.
The third quarter saw both teams struggle at times, as shots would fall and then shooting would go ice cold. Both teams matched bucket for bucket, with Emmetsburg continuing to hold their 10-point advantage, at 43-33 when the third quarter ended.
In the final quarter, the E’Hawks began to edge away from the Rebels, taking as much as a 14-point lead before Sioux Central was able to cut the margin to 10 points late in the game. Emmetsburg would come roaring back in the final minutes to post the 57-39 win.
For Emmetsburg, a balanced scoring attack was led by the 17 points of Nick Wuebker. Nate Brown added 12 points and Cory Schultes came away with 11 points. Ryan Kliegl added five points, with Tommy Kuecker and Jake Carlson both chipping in four points each. Kyle Elbert and Steven Heddinger rounded out the efforts with two points each.
