Compass Pointe Open House Feb. 5

Emmetsburg Office Welcomes New Alcohol/Drug, Gambling Addiction Counselor

by Lori Hall
POSTED: February 2, 2010
Compass Pointe will hold an open house at 1104 Broadway St. to introduce the Emmetsburg office’s new drug/alcohol and gambling addiction counselor, Connee Woods. The open house will be on Thursday, Feb. 4, from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Coffee and sweets will be served.

The public will also have the opportunity to meet Compass Pointe Prevention Specialist Jody Duhn, Treatment Supervisor Karen Russell, and Gambling Program Manager Mike Getz during the open house.

“I’m new to the Emmetsburg office, but I’m a veteran of the human services field with over 24 years of experience,” said Connee Woods, ACADC. “I’m very excited to be a part of the Emmetsburg community.”

Woods is an ACADC (Advanced Certified Alcohol/Drug Counselor) and a licensed Social Worker. She is also trained in gambling addiction. Woods has been employed by Compass Pointe (formerly known as Northwest Iowa Alcoholism & Drug Treatment Unit) for five years. She will be at the Compass Pointe office in Emmetsburg on Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

“As the need grows, my hours and days will be expanded,” said Woods. “My goal is to be available more as the need arises.”

Woods is particularly interested in helping teenagers.

“I hope to reach out to college students struggling with these issues,” Woods said.

Compass Pointe provides a full range of services, including drug/alcohol and gambling addiction prevention, assessments, and treatment, and works with employers, attorneys, and Iowa Lakes Community College. Compass Pointe has nine offices covering the counties of Buena Vista, Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Lyon, O’Brien, Osceola, Palo Alto, Sioux, and Kossuth.

“I look forward to meeting people during our open house,” said Woods. “If anyone would like more information, they can call and leave a message at 712-262-2952.”
