SPIRIT LAKE - It took a few weeks to get the game played, after being rained out earlier in June, but Emmetsburg’s Lady E’Hawks earned a 4-2 win over Spirit Lake in Lakes Conference softball Tuesday night. The win improves Emmetsburg to a mark of 7-4 on the season and 15-8 overall on the year. Emmetsburg has little time to reflect on the win, as they will host Spirit Lake again tonight (Thursday) in conference action in Emmetsburg. The two teams traded outs in the first inning, with Emmetsburg’s Maddison Woodruff striking out the Indians in order to close out the first inning. In the second, Alex Lock led off with a base hit. A walk for Janna Hoch was followed by a fielders’ choice that put courtesy runner Nicole Leuer out at third. After a sacrifice by Morgan Vlasman, Caitlin Wise was put out to end the at-bat, stranding Janna Hoch and Woodruff’s runner, Hillary Pico. Woodruff would induce three outs for the Indians in the second as the defensive battle continued.
