The competition was definitely heated during Wild Rose Casino & Resort’s first-ever HOG Wild! Wild! Wild! BBQ Competition.
The event began Friday evening, Aug. 29, and wrapped up on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 30. According to organizer Beth Thompson, Marketing Manager at Wild Rose, 23 teams participated in the contest.
Participants pulled their fifth wheel trailers and RVs into the Wild Rose RV Travel Park, along with their BBQ smokers. Pork ribs and pork butt were the cuts of choice, and the meat was supplied by Wild Rose. The event was loosely based on Kansas City Barbecue Society rules.
BBQ samples were available for the public to taste, as well as the team of six BBQ judges. Once the judges had sampled each of the entries, the top five teams in each category, as well as a grand champion and reserve champion, were named. Over $3,000 in cash prizes were awarded.
