Don't pay the ransom, I escaped!

October 21, 2008 - Dan Voigt
I haven't been around this space much in the past few weeks, but not without good reason. Excuse the sad excuse, but I've been a touch busy. The staff here at The Reporter and The Democrat just finished up the 2008 Progress Edition, five sections of stories, photos and advertising that we hope will fill you in on some of the new and exciting things that have happened in Palo Alto County during the past year. Since the Progress Issue comes out once a year, yes, it becomes a detailed work in progress (oooh, a little play on words there) until the final pages go to the printing plant in Webster City, and we can all kick back for a few moments, catch our breath, and wonder what happened to the past two or three weeks. Come to think of it, the last time I remember, there were still soybeans waiting to be harvested around here. Yeah, I've been a little preoccupied with Progress. Anyhow, this year's edition will be in your hands on Oct. 23, and I hope you set aside some time to read through it. Some of the stories are updates to stories we've covered earlier this year, some are entirely new, and some pay tribute to businesses and individuals celebrating milestones in their life and times. Now that the Progress issue is put to bed for the year, we begin thinking about it all over again. Of course, one of the first things that anyone in the newsroom will say is that we're going to really remember to save things over the year to make next year's Progress easier. Yeah, been there, done that repeatedly. Isn't going to happen. But you know what? Next year, about this time, we'll pull it all together again, and Progress 2009 will come your way. Now, let's get squared away for the playoffs, shall we?
