It never fails

April 4, 2008 - Dan Voigt
Everyone knows the old expression, "it never fails...." While attending a seminar in Des Moines on Thursday, I got thinking about that expression as I was chugging northward out of the capital city at 3:30 with these huge snowflakes falling out of the sky and cars sliding around. Of course, my first thought was, "it never fails, something goofy happens weather-wise whenever I'm in Des Moines." But then, as I drove northerly and drove out of the snow just outside of Ames, I started coming up with some more of those, "it never fails" lines. I submit the following for your consideration: It never fails.... - that your vehicle breaks down right after you get a tax refund check - that when you want to leave work early, something always comes up - that when you want to be a work extra early, your alarm fails to go off - that if you have a time plan all figured out for something, it collapses like a house of cards - when you're wearing nice outfit, the neighbors dog will decide your his best friend - your grabbing a snack while driving on your way to an important engagement and of course, you spill all over yourself - the waitress tells you to be careful of your plate because its very hot, and you touch it anyway because you don't believe her and burn your finger - when you have a whole list of things to write about and then when the time comes, you go blank -- it never fails.
