March 27, 2008 - Dan Voigt
Thursday morning, it happened. For someone who works with the internet daily, I had to go cold-turkey for an entire morning. Our internet provider at the office was down, apparently due to an "equipment failure" that started at 1:30 in the morning, but was solved around 1 p.m. I started getting grief from our Editor, "How are you going to make it for an entire day without internet?" Hah! I knew better. I called the internet provider, got the recording saying they figured to have the problem solved by noon-ish. OK, I can do this. You betcha, I tried the internet at 12:01 - I gave them a minute - no luck. Try tech support - now the recording says 1 to 2:30 p.m. I'm starting to get shaky. However, a very few minutes later, the internet came back, and everything was good once again. Was I truly lost? Not really - but I was a little, ummm, concerned. I think I could really last a full day without the internet, I did on vacation last year, but it is something you do get in the habit of. Maybe there's a patch for it, or chewing gum....
